I keep this photo up for sentimental, historical reasons! This was taken in 2007 when I was still teaching, and well before Covid, when we were all teaching face to face!
These days, all classes are online.
Speak Better English does NOT provide cheap private tutoring. For this reason, we need to be sure we are offering an optimal service, so you need to be able to demonstrate extensive experience and expertise in the fields you are offering to teach. ESL/EFL/EAL teaching qualifications and accessible referees are essential, as is commitment to preparing productive lessons which align with the students' goals.
Teachers familiar with the ISLPR are particularly welcome to apply, as many of our current students are preparing for the ISLPR test, in which four 4's (in reading, writing, speaking and listening) are required in several states for overseas-trained teachers to be eligible for teacher registration.
As the work is somewhat unpredictable, it suits people who like to work part-time, and can be flexible. Current teachers work 1-to-1 online with between 1 and 8 students in a week. You need to be interested in working intensely on an individual student’s particular issues, so if you love preparation and meeting students' language needs, but hate useless paperwork, Speak Better English might be for you! On top of that, with adequate notice, you can take time off for holidays, and resume when you are available again.
Speak Better English are fully qualified teachers with the relevant specialties. If you would like to teach a certain kind of student, you need to demonstrate the appropriate qualifications and experience. This may include EAL programs at all levels, Business English, English for Educational Purposes, Academic English, Literacy for Native Speakers, and so on.

I really enjoy working as a teacher for Speak Better English. Students are taught one-on-one fully online which gives them the flexibility to work around their jobs. Most of my students are already working in schools in various roles. They are preparing for the ISLPR test so that they can achieve the level of English language proficiency required to obtain their teacher registration. Going through this process enables them to teach in Australia.
Teachers also enjoy a flexible working arrangement and do not have to travel to work. They create lessons and adapt them to suit the individual needs of each student without the constraints of a prescribed curriculum. When students find us via the SBE website, Marianne is their first point of contact. Marianne manages all the administration and does a wonderful job matching students to teachers.
Thank you SBE for this wonderful opportunity.

What a pleasure it is to work for Speak Better English!
An amazing range of diverse students come through the website and Marianne has the knack of matching them with tutors, finding a ‘great fit’ and creating the opportunity for solid and rewarding learning partnerships.
She takes care of all the admin and negotiation, leaving you free to get on and teach. There is always interest, support and appreciation for what you and your students achieve.
Thank-you SBE for providing such a professional, ethical and flexible organisation for English language learners and tutors.

Working with students at Speak Better English is always interesting as each student has different language skills they want to work on. As I tailor make resources for students, I learn about many new areas of employment and study and develop the best way to help students with their language learning.
Giving immediate feedback allows me to help students individually and leads to a more satisfying and successful experience.Working with students in small groups or one to one gives the opportunity to share a sense of humour and make progress with language and confidence.

I have really enjoyed working for Speak Better English and with Marianne Sherry. Marianne is fully supportive of her teachers, and helps to match you with a suitable student.
Once matched with a student and the lesson schedule confirmed, teachers are allowed the creative space to respond to their students' needs. My students have been very motivated, and the teaching is always very rewarding.
